Anne Johnson loved their home but it just didn’t work for them anymore. The options were to move or improve and Anne wasn’t willing to uproot to another property that still wouldn’t solve all of their problems.
So improve it was!
The clients’ brief was to modernise and extend their existing 1930s home to accommodate how the family now lived.
They wanted open plan living where the family could congregate and yet still have connected spaces that could be seen from a centralised kitchen.
The property was to retain most of its existing feature to the front with a more up to date design to the rear which is typical of this build.
The initial concepts were created after an in-depth consultation and discussed with the Anne and Mark.
The extent of the concepts would see the existing outbuildings to the rear of the existing garage replaced with a new gym, utility and home office.
The side extension and the rear extension are to be connected via a glass walkway.
Both rear elements are single storey, with aluminium windows and vertically clad in timber. The roof will be covered in green or living roof system.
Alongside the rear and side extension, there is a subtle re-ordering of the ground and first floor rooms and master bedroom loft conversion.
With just a few minor tweaks, the concepts were issued to the local authority for planning permission, which was granted a few weeks later and the build is starting in the summer.
